Introduction
Amongst management institutes in India, Xavier Institute of Management is a relatively new arrival. It will complete twenty years in 2007. Within this short period, however, it has established an identity of its own, and it is getting to be known not only for its postgraduate programme but also for projects usually not found in management institutions. The institute owes its origin to a "short contract" between the Government of Orissa and the Jesuits. The Management of the institute is in the hands of a Board of Governors, consisting of senior representatives of the Government of India, the State Government, the Orissa Jesuit society, and eminent industrialists and educationists.
