Admission Procedure for First Stage (MBA, 2016-18)

Eligibility: The minimum requirement for admission to the Program is a three-year Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with at least 55% marks in aggregate from a recognised university. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations by June 15, 2017, can also apply. Offers of admission to such candidates, if made, will be provisional and will be automatically cancelled in the event of their failing to complete all the requirements for obtaining the degree before June 15, 2017.

Admission Test

Applicants are required to take any one of the Admission Tests: a) XAT to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on 8 January, 2017 or b) CAT to be conducted by IIMs on 4 December 2016, or c) GMAT taken in 2015 or 2016 (minimum score for applying 550), or d) X-GMT to be conducted by Xavier University Bhubaneswar on 29 January 2017. Applicants opting for XAT or CAT have to follow XAT/CAT advertisements respectively and apply in time. Registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT is a prerequisite for applying to XIMB, if not opting for X-GMT.

Applicants also have to fill up the online application form separately for XUB program at: or Upon successfully filling the online application form and paying the application fee, the applicant will receive the confirmation by email.

The last date for applying online is December 30, 2016.

It may be noted that besides registering for XAT/CAT/GMAT, one has to apply (online) separately to XUB.

Selection Process 

The Institute will decide the section-wise as well as total cut-off marks which will be used for short-listing the candidates to be called for Written Ability Test, and Personal Interview. WAT & PI will be held in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the Interview session. The final selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in the XAT/CAT/GMAT as well as in the Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview (which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail in the month of April 2017.

ABOUT X-GMT (Xavier General Management Aptitude Test)
The on-line X-GMT test will be of 120 minutes duration. The multiple choice question (MCQ) type test will have five sections namely Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, Emotional Quotient and General Awareness. There will be sectional time limits, with negative markings for wrong answers.
The pattern and syllabus will be similar to the other tests like CAT and XAT.
The test will be conducted on 29th January 2017, at Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai, and the candidates will have to make their own arrangements for travel and stay. The time schedule and venue details will be intimated by email, by the third week of January 2017.


The first stage (MBA) of the programme will begin by the middle of June 2017  for the first year students. At this time the students will be given a Manual of Policies and Regulations which will be binding on them.

Second Stage (PhD)

Eligibility: Those candidates, who secure a minimum cumulative score of 6.5 on a 10-point scale shall qualify to submit the research proposal, and shall be interviewed based on the research proposal submitted by them for admission into PhD.


Scholarships and other supports

During their final year of MBA, students are encouraged to write UGC-NET test. Those who qualify for JRF shall be provided Junior research fellowship from the University Grant Commission.  For further details, kindly visit Limited number of fellowships may be provided by Xavier University.


Duration of the programme:

The minimum time period required to complete the programme is three years after MBA from Xavier University. Broadly this is divided into two parts, the first year for the course work, and remaining two years for writing the doctoral thesis. The maximum duration allowed to complete the PhD is six years. Maximum possible extension to submit thesis after six years is 12 months.


Course work and registration:

After the successful completion of course the candidate is supposed to give a thesis proposal seminar.  After the successful completion of seminar, the candidate PhD’s topic will be registered with XU.
